On October 2 the following message was sent to the YAPA email database -
Dear YAPA Volunteers
Your Steering Committee (Debbie M, Cindy W, and Debi K) are struggling with maintaining YAPA.
When YAPA started there was a serious need for an intermediary between evolucion, afad, and planned pethood. Planned Pethood was pushing for spay n neuter clinics, but the 2 albergues were struggling with volunteers. That's where we came in, we put the extranjero volunteers together with the animal rescues in need of help. We organized, raised funds, advertised, and translated.
Things have changed; both evolucion and afad have their own strong volunteer base, and many of you are a part of that.
So where does YAPA go from here??? And who will step up to lead???
There are several ideas for YAPA,
one possibility is to create a database for all the animal rescues here in the Merida area. And there are quite a few. Many of us don't even know about most of them. So we could create a database of the group, its Leader, its purpose, and its contact info. That way you would know who to contact to volunteer and/or donate money, goods, etc. One of the biggest needs at all rescues are people willing to help with daily activities, socializing animals, walking, bathing, cleaning up, etc.
another is to set up a search and rescue squad. As you are aware there are many animals that get lost on a daily basis, and a quick return home is their only hope. So what about a phone tree, fb tree, or what ever, of people willing to drop just about anything and blaze off to help search for an animal??? This could also extend to situations where an animal in need is rescued from harm. This could be set up by Regions, or areas of town.
What other ideas do you think YAPA could do to continue to help? Or has YAPA fulfilled its purpose and can be put to rest? And what are you willing to do to help YAPA? Take over the facebook page, monitor and respond to emails, setup a database, lead a phone tree?
Let us know your thoughts, Thanks, for your help with this new phase, and for all you have done, and continue to do!
Merida is a better place for all your help!
DebiK, for YAPA
and this email went out 26 October -
After the recent inquiry, sent to all the YAPA email members, several interesting ideas came forward, and a number of people offered their assistance for projects and events.
Unfortunately no one stepped up to take a controlling function for YAPA.
The Steering Committee, Debbie Moore, Cindy Wagner, and I have therefore decided to disband YAPA.
Since it's beginning in 2010 a lot of really good things have happened because of YAPA, and because of each of you. We can all be so proud of what we have done.
For those of you interested I will cc the 2 main dog sanctuaries (AFAD, and Evolucion) that we have worked with, you may contact them separately to get involved with them directly.
I will I void the YAPA facebook page immediately, and just leave the blog alone as it still houses some good information and resource contact info. I will also delete the email account.
Thank you, to each and every one of you.
Debbie, Cindy, and Debi
information about the shelters/albergues can be found on the tab above. Please don't stop all your great work towards helping the animals, we still have a long way to go.
