Flamboyanes Spay n Neuter clinic

A one day Spay n Neuter Clinic was held in Flamboyanes, near Progreso yesterday.
a one day clinic yes, but months in the making!

Dan and Cindy, the ever tireless dynamic duo with more energy drive and ambition than any ten combined people I know stepped up when, during discussion with the Director of Ecology for Progreso, he pointed out that the community of Flamboyanes is in a crisis state of being over run with dogs.
Flamboyanes is too far to get the larger dogs to the free clinics, and transportation is often difficult. This has led to a population explosion;

Dan and Cindy stepped up!!!

They put the word out - came up with fund raising ideas, solicited the aid of friends, family, and unknowns who are now new friends.
Then together with this stalwart group raised money to buy the materials needed to do a spay neuter campaign, secured the commitment from the Vets, secured and evaluted a location, solicited donations of food, drink, paper towels, plastic bags, and all the assundrious other accoutrement necessary to host a clinic, handled the promotion and education of the spay n neuter philosophy with-in the target community, found funds to  be able to buy the surgical materials to do the operations.  And in general did an absolutely amazing job of coordinating, organizing, and making this thing happen.

No, they didn't do it all by themselves, they had help, lots of help, AWESOME help!
Buut they were the catalyst. They did an amazing thing - You guys are incredible!

So a BIG Shout Out here to Planned Pethood, the

Department of Ecologia y Media Ambiente in

Progreso, AFAD Progreso, YAPA, and all the

volunteers and donors!

132 animals were sterilized yesterday,
and a lot of education and awareness was communicated.  friendships and commitments made.
A BIG thank you goes out to Br. Arturo R. Quezada Pech and the team at the Department of Ecology in Progreso for being proactive in this campaign, and for their staff that came out and worked equally as tirelessly to help the animal population in Flamboyanes.

And a HUGE shout out to the residents in Flamboyanes who took their Sunday to come and receive this care for their pet(s).

here are a few photos of the day!

and a separate note from Cindy - YAPA folks stepped up above and beyond with

time, money, food, energy and lots of laughs. Planned Pethood - as usual

surpassed expectations but I would like to put out an extra special thanks & huge

recognition to all those AFAD students of Maura who volunteer tirelessly at every

clinic and event. They did the census. They do the promotion. They are the public

face of these clinics. And what a well oiled machine they have become. They are so

polite, so happy and so committed. We all should be so lucky to have a teacher in

our lives like Maura Garcia, AFAD Progreso President to pull this all together

Show up on Fridays for free spa services!

AFAD AC (Pagina) is looking for more volunteers for their Viernes de Spa -- every Friday we meet at 11am at the AFAD shelter just outside Cholul to bathe & walk the dogs, and just spend time with them. We work from 11 until about 1, and anyone (and everyone) is welcome.

No problem if you don't speak Spanish. Just show up, wear comfortable clothes (that might get wet & dirty), a hat and bring water to drink.

The Afad A.c. shelter is located on the road to Cholul, just outside the Periférico (Cholul/Altabrisa exit). It's across the street and just down from Universidad Modelo.

If you don't have a car, you can get there via the Cholul bus (leaves Centro at Calle 56 X 59, about every 15 minutes).

I hope to see some of you there -- it's a lot of fun, and the dogs really appreciate the attention!

Criminal Code Reform

Great news for Yucatan!

On Monday April 15th at 10:30 am the Deputies of the Congress of Yucatan will be voting on the "Criminal Code Reform," which establishes financial penalties (consisting of the payment of a fine to the State as punishment for committing a crime) and deprivation of liberty for those who commit acts of cruelty against domestic animals.
We urge the attendance by all, including citizens, it is important for legislators to know the interest we have in this social issue.
This initiative being brought forth by Evolucion, AMEDEA, LEP, Marcia Lara, Mr. Rafael Rodriguez and Dip. Mauricio Vila, META and certainly many others.
Thank you all for bringing this petition to Congress.
Please, everyone come,
Congreso del Estado de Yucatán
is located on calle 58 x 57y59, Centro.
